The concreting work councils and builders tender out
Most council and civil concreting packages are the work good domestic and small commercial crews already do: footpath renewals, kerb and channel, vehicle crossovers, shared paths, slabs and footings for council buildings, pram ramps, retaining walls and drainage pits. Builders tender the same scopes as subcontract packages on commercial and government projects. The difference isn't the work. It's what you have to prove before anyone reads your price.
What a concreting tender usually asks for
Every tender sets its own rules, so always read the documents. But for council concreting work you can expect to be asked for most of these:
- A capability statement showing your crew, plant, experience and the concreting scopes you deliver
- A WHS (safety) management system and Safe Work Method Statements for high-risk work, such as work near traffic, trenching and mobile plant
- Certificates of currency for public liability and workers compensation, usually with a minimum cover level
- Project history with photos, values and referees who will take a call
- A plant and equipment register: what you own and what you reliably hire
- Sometimes a quality plan or inspection and test plans (ITPs) for pours, plus an environmental plan for washout, sediment and dust
- Returnable schedules: pricing forms, conflict-of-interest declarations, methodology and program
Why good concreters miss out
It's rarely the concrete. Councils score evidence. A crew with 15 years of clean work can lose to a smaller operator who simply presented their safety system, referees and plant better. Common gaps we see are a capability statement that reads like a flyer, SWMS that are generic templates, project history with no values or referees, and insurances below what the tender asks for.
How Procura helps concreters tender
- Free Tender Readiness Review: a 30-minute call and a short summary of what you hold, what needs checking and what's missing.
- Documents built from your records: capability statement, WHS system and SWMS that match how your crew actually works, project history and a plant register. You approve everything.
- Tender management: we screen concreting tenders in your trade and area, lay out the scope and quantities so pricing is quicker, and prepare each submission around your price.
- Insurance broker referral if your cover is short of what the work asks for. We don't give insurance advice.
You set your own price and keep your margin. We can't guarantee a contract, and nobody honestly can.
