What the CSR covers
The works categories are mainly for building work: new commercial and residential construction, commercial and residential refurbishment, office fit-out, demolition, fire services, land remediation, lifts, licensed asbestos removal, concrete corrosion and a low value works category for projects under $500,000 including GST. Residential categories require domestic builder registration with the Victorian Building Authority.
Project limits
Prequalified suppliers are given a project limit, set in steps from $250,000 up to $50 million. Above $50 million, work is open only to suppliers on the National Pre-qualification Scheme.
Eligibility and how to apply
- Stage one is an eligibility check: business details, at least two years of operating history with an ABN or ACN, relevant Victorian experience, and registration that matches the category, such as a building practitioner registration.
- Stage two is the online application with supporting documents, prepared using DTF's CSR checklist.
Do concreters and civil contractors need the CSR?
Usually not for council work, which is assessed tender by tender. The CSR is aimed at building contractors and consultants working for state government departments. Most concrete and civil subcontractors win government-funded work either directly from councils or as a subcontractor to a prequalified head contractor. Road and bridge work has its own register: see our DTP prequalification guide.
